Teaching

Richard has given masterclasses at the Royal Northern College of Music and for the National Student Opera Society. He has also served as a competition adjudicator at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Richard teaches privately in Berlin and online.

A recent student, the dramatic soprano Laura WL Mullinger, commented :

‘Singing lessons with Richard are an absolute joy. Possessing a warm, kind presence, he also has a formidable ear and superb technical knowledge. During our work together he consolidated and extended my technical security, especially around my highest notes. This left me with a detailed understanding of how my voice worked, and reliable strategies to overcome the difficulties inherent in my repertoire. He also enabled me to find easier access to a wide variety of vocal colours and expressivity, often using the language as a springboard. Always encouraging, he nevertheless held me to a high professional standard, meaning improvements came swiftly and were very welcomed.

I would recommend Richard most highly as a teacher at any level. He understands the human voice beautifully and knows how to impart that knowledge in ways that make sense.’

Another, mezzo-soprano Nicola Dunne, added :

‘An inspirational teacher, Richard Wiegold’s own wealth of experience, and nurturing, professional approach ensure that lessons result in rapid student-led growth and development. Excellent technical knowledge and appreciation of the human voice is explored and instilled at every level through Richard’s superb delivery. I would highly recommend.
