Richard Wiegold

Richard Wiegold has a rapidly developing international career as a bass singer in opera and concert, with performances at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Canadian Opera, Opera Colorado, Le Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the ABAO in Bilbao, Le Grand Théâtre de Genève, Welsh National Opera, the Prague State Opera, the Verbier Festival, the Estonian National Opera, in concert with the Berlin Philharmonic and with companies and festivals in the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Austria and China.

Since 2008, Richard has sung under some of the world’s preeminent conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev,  Sir Antonio Pappano,  Sir Mark Elder, Richard Bonynge,  John Mauceri, Pinchas Steinberg, Gaetano d’Espinoza and Jan Latham-Koenig, and alongside some of the world’s greatest singers, including Renée Fleming, Angela Gheorghiu, Anna Netrebko, Dame Gwyneth Jones, Deborah Voigt, the late Elizabeth Connell, Emily Magee, Hanna Schwarz, Nelly Miricioiu, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Leo Nucci, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Peter Seiffert, Thomas Hampson,  James Morris, Simon Keenlyside, Joseph Calleja, Sir John Tomlinson, Robert Lloyd, Iain Paterson and Siegfried Jerusalem.

 

Born in South Wales, Richard was a professional cellist for nearly a decade before returning to the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, to study voice 1999-2003.

He now continues his studies with the distinguished Australian tenor Anthony Roden.
